With Roberto De Zerbi now announced by Brighton & Hove Albion, the Italian media is obviously full of stories covering the manager’s arrival at the Seagulls.

It turns out that an interesting piece comes from Napoli Calcio Live, who claim that the coach’s move to the Premier League could actually frustrate some plans the Serie A side had for the end of the season.

The outlet explains that with manager Luciano Spaletti not renewing his contract yet, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis had been monitoring De Zerbi as an option for next summer, depending on this season’s results. Now this move to Brighton frustrates any plans.

The club chief is said to be a ‘great admirer’ of the former Shakhtar Donetsk boss, and since De Zerbi’s salary is lower than Spaletti’s, that actually made him an attractive option to be their next coach.

With the 41-year-old now joining Brighton, it’s said there’s now ‘mockery’ towards the Napoli president. The story claims there are just ‘no reasons’ to believe D Zerbi would leave the Seagulls so soon after his arrival.
