Denzel Dumfries’ agent has been ‘intensifying contacts’ with Chelsea since the January transfer window over a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say it is no secret that the Dutchman is ‘on his way out’ of the Italian side.

They explain that Inter are eyeing up a deal for Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui, who is a long-term target and could become available if the German giants turn Joao Cancelo’s loan move into a permanent one.

For that to happen they need to sell Dumfries, who wants to move to the Premier League and has interest from Chelsea.

They have ‘launched several signals of openness’ about a move and his agent was already ‘intensifying contacts’ in the January transfer window.

Inter are more than happy to do a deal for him and certainly need to make money from sales this summer but they will only accept bids that are in relation to how their players are valued.

They’ve put a €50m asking price on Dumfries and will accept ‘cash only’ for him, there will be no deals involving players or ‘technical quid pro quos’.

That money will then be reinvested in the squad but it remains to be seen if Chelsea are willing to pay the asking price given their spending since last summer.

They also already have Reece James in their squad and agreed a deal for Lyon’s Malo Gusto to arrive at the end of the season so are not short of options in the right back position.

Spending €50m on Dumfries with that in mind would make little sense but the interest in the Dutchman is a long-term one and his agent remains in contact about a switch regardless.
