Already loaned to Burnley last season when the Clarets were still in the Championship, Ian Maatsen could be set for a second spell at Turf Moor.

That’s according to Sacha Tavolieri, who took to Twitter to reveal that Vincent Kompany’s side were once against interested in the Chelsea left-back.

The 21-year-old has only played 13 minutes in the Blues’ first three games this season, suggesting he is replaceable, and Burnley want to take advantage of this.

The Dutch wing-back was heavily used by Kompany last season at Burnley, as he appeared in 39 Championship games, scoring four goals and picking up six assists, as well as featuring in both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

It’s explained the newly promoted side are ‘working on a loan deal’ with Chelsea for Maatsen, and it’s ‘likely’ that two more attacking reinforcements will be added on top of him at Turf Moor.

Therefore, we can expect the next few days to be rather busy, while the Blues continue to offload players they don’t particularly want around, even if Pochettino had used the youngster.

Whether Chelsea could see some money from this isn’t said, but there’s an argument to be made for them to try and include an option to buy, especially if they feel Maatsen can repeat last year’s feats under Kompany once again.
