Joan Laporta was Barcelona’s president between 2003 and 2010, and under his leadership, the Catalan club went on to win the Champions League twice, and added four La Liga titles along with other trophies.

On October 27th, Josep Maria Bartomeu stepped down as the La Liga side’s president and Carles Tusquets is now the interim chief.

According to RAC1, Laporta is ‘already working for the next Barça elections’ and has ‘launched’ his candidacy for the Catalan club’s presidential election.

Although it’s not ‘100% confirmed’, RAC1 adds Laporta has already started polling executives for his new project at the Camp Nou.

It’s claimed former Valencia chief Matthew Alemany will be Barcelona’s general manager if Laporta becomes president for the second time.

With regards to the incoming players, the report claims Bayern Munich star David Alaba is the ‘chosen one’ for Laporta.

RAC1 explains the Spanish lawyer has the 28-year-old on his ‘agenda’ for his project, and they further stress Laporta and the Austria international’s entourage are ‘already in contact’.

Alaba is in his final year of contract at Allianz Arena, and Bayern president Herbert Hainer confirmed the treble winners have withdrawn their renewal offer for the defender.

RAC1’s report has been relayed in today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo and the newspaper explains Alaba’s €8m per season salary demand makes it ‘impossible’ for Barca to sign him, even on a free transfer.
