With a contract expiring in the summer, the possibility of Jan Vertonghen leaving Tottenham Hotspur as a free agent keeps increasing as the weeks go by.
Various reports coming out of Italy have talked about Napoli’s interest in the centre-back.
On March 24th, Corriere dello Sport explained it would be easier for the Serie A side and the 32-year-old’s camp to hold summer transfer talks after ‘chats’ took place between the two parties in January.
The Spurs defender appeared on Belgian show De Kleedkamer and explained he will have to “write down the pros and cons” of transfer options.
Napoli could be facing the prospect of losing Kalidou Koulibaly in the next transfer window and should that happen, they will have bring in a replacement for the Senegalese defender. Vertonghen is viewed as one of the options.
Speaking to CalcioNapoli24, journalist Ciro Venerato has provided an update on the Belgium international’s chances of arriving at Napoli.
“On Jan Vertonghen of Tottenham, problems are related to the economic discourse. He asks too much from a club that will not play in the Champions League,” he said.
Napoli are sixth in the table with 39 points and are nine points behind fourth placed Atalanta, who have a game in hand.
