Arsenal’s hopes of signing Guido Rodriguez from Real Betis remain intact as there is currently not agreement for him to join Barcelona this summer.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say they have been in contact with Rodriguez’s agents to clarify recent reports linking him with a move to the Camp Nou.

Rodriguez has been one of the stars at Betis for several seasons, with a series of impressive performances, particularly under Manuel Pellegrini.

He’s been linked with a move to the Premier League for a while and Arsenal have been named among his suitors on more than one occasion, with a report back in October last year even stating that Betis were worried about their interest in him.

A move never happened this season, but he has continued to impress, so much so that he has now been identified as one of the possible successors to Sergio Busquets at Barcelona.

Indeed, several reports in Spain made it clear that a deal was basically done but Estadio Deportivo deny this, insisting that they have spoken to the player’s entourage, who have insisted “there is nothing at all” going on with the Catalans.

That means Arsenal still have their chance to get a player who has been linked with a move to Emirates for some time, and, indeed, could be on their radar again this summer.

He’d certainly be an ideal replacement for Granit Xhaka should he leave as has been reported, or even as a cheap alternative to Declan Rice if he proves to be too expensive.
