Martin Odegaard’s move to Arsenal, and subsequent success, could be a decisive factor in the club’s efforts to sign Eden Hazard this summer.

That’s according to Real Madrid orientated Defensa Central, who provide their own slant on recent reports regarding Arsenal’s interest in the Belgian.

The Gunners emerged as a surprise suitor for Hazard over the last week, with it claimed they had already opened talks to try and make a deal happen this summer.

The forward is expected to bring his disastrous spell at the Santiago Bernabeu to an end, and there is a growing belief he will target a move back to the Premier League if he does.

DC back that up, stating that Real Madrid are already working on the basis that Hazard will be leaving, and the plan is to get rid of him so they can make room in the squad, particularly as Hazard is the second-highest-paid player at the club.

A return to the Premier League makes sense after his spell with Chelsea, and Arsenal have ‘emerged’ as a contender in recent days.

They have two factors working in their favour, one of them being that they have a good relationship with Real Madrid, which will make any negotiations easier, and the other being Martin Odegaard.

The website explains that he is the ‘trump card’ in Arsenal’s hand as he has a ‘good relationship’ with Hazard following his own disappointing spell with the Spanish giants.

Hazard acted as something of a mentor for Odegaard when he was out of favour under Zinedine Zidane last season, and while their relationship was a brief one because the midfielder departed for Arsenal, the pair ‘quickly connected’ and were a ‘support for each other’ when they were together.

That plays in Arsenal’s favour as Odegaard is ‘smiling’ in London, and that could convince Hazard to make the move to the Emirates.

It’s something Mikel Arteta and co are certainly going to try and use, with it believed that they will ‘pull the strings’ with him to lure in Hazard.

The hope is that the connection between the pair will be enough for Hazard, who still has a house in London and was ‘tremendously happy’ there during his time with Chelsea, will help him overlook the connection to the Blues and make the move to one of their rivals this summer.
