Championship side Sheffield Wednesday sent officials to visit the Estádio da Luz this weekend, as reported by Portuguese newspaper Record.

Club scouts were seen at Benfica’s league match against Vitória Setúbal, in which the home team managed to thrash the opponents 6-0.

The game was seen as the Eagles’ return to their old form, as Benfica have been struggling with results this season and could start a comeback after such a great result.

Previous visits to Estádio da Luz

Only from the stories we could cover, this is the fifth time that Sheffield Wednesday have scouted the Lisbon side this season, which shows there’s definitely something interesting at the Estádio da Luz for them.

The funny thing is that the Owls haven’t been linked to any Benfica player yet, so it sounds like the moves for a possible target are still to be done.

A lot to see, but hard to get them

A 6-0 win will obviously have various positive points, and it was surprisingly a defender who was the man of the match picked by Record. Brazilian defender Luisão not only had a great defensive display, but also scored the opener early in the game.

The 36-year-old, who is close to retirement, was even linked to a Championship move recently and was said to be wanted by Wolves but ended up staying in Lisbon where he has a contract until the end of the season.

The other players highlighted by the newspaper were right-back André Almeida and midfielder Filip Krovinovic, both for their attacking skills when building up play in the game.

But the two are the kind of player who would be quite difficult for a Championship side to get. It’s actually hard to find a starter at Benfica who would make such a move, even though these frequent visits to Lisbon show that Sheffield Wednesday are up for something.
