West Ham transfer agreement in principle could be barrier to Barcelona

As soon as the season ended, West Ham had one target in mind: get a new, big name striker to unveil at the Olympic Stadium.

Nearly three months later, and many bids rejected, they still don’t have their goalscorer, and the names are starting to become smaller and smaller.

With Carlos Bacca seemingly taking his time over giving West Ham his answer, Jonathan Calleri of Deportivo Maldonado appears to be the likeliest option.

The player spent the second half of last season on loan at Sao Paulo in Brazil, but a European adventure seems to be his next career step, yet the Hammers aren’t the only ones interested.

According to Sport in Spain, Barcelona have also highlighted the Argentinean striker as an option to be backup for Luis Suarez.

However, the Catalan newspaper make it clear West Ham could already have an agreement in principle for the striker, as confirmed by Jack Sullivan, David Sullivan’s son, last week.

Calleri has agreed to come however, it is subject to a work permit application in a weeks time.

It’s been a week now, and we’ve still not heard much from the work permit application, but it should be clear very soon whether or not Calleri will be in London next season.

Until then, fully expect him to continuously be linked elsewhere.

The player is currently with Argentina’s U23 squad, preparing for this summer’s Olympics.
