Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona was never going to go quiet just because the summer transfer window closed.
Despite there being other big news around Catalonia at the moment, and despite Barcelona’s great start to the current season, Coutinho is still managing to get front pages.
Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo has the Liverpool player in pride of place, and the gist is that Barcelona could offer €80m plus €30m in bonuses during the January transfer window.
The Catalan newspaper say that’s what Liverpool were offered in the summer, and Barcelona aren’t prepared to go any higher for the Brazilian.
The outline work is already ongoing, and Coutinho’s camp remain in talks with Barcelona, say Mundo Deportivo. It’s also claimed the player is urging his representatives to pressure Liverpool because ‘the Barcelona train cannot be missed twice’.
Throughout the saga, Sport have insisted there’ll come a point when FSG will have to buckle, with it being good business for Liverpool’s owners.
Sport also recently claimed that FSG would be more willing to sell Coutinho next time, after Jurgen Klopp’s assurances of a title challenge faltered early on.
