Much like Leicester City last season, when a team like RB Leipzig takes everyone by surprise and performs well with a select group of players, rotation rarely happens.
Still scoring four goals in that brief time on the pitch, Selke’s potential is well known, mostly from his time with Germany’s youth teams, and both West Ham and Everton are reportedly interested in him.
Considering both teams are keen on strikers this summer, bringing in a young, tall player like Selke to either replace Romelu Lukaku with the Toffees or help alleviate the pressure surrounding Andy Carroll at the London Stadium, might not be the worst idea.
According to Kicker in Germany, Selke has apparently agreed terms with his former club Werder Bremen, but Leipzig and their Bundesliga rivals are still very far off a fee.
This leaves wiggle room for Ronald Koeman and Slaven Bilic to potentially get Selke, as giving Leipzig their initial expenditure of £6.8m, plus a little bit more for safe measure, wouldn’t be too much of an issue.
They’ve both enquired, and with his agent reportedly making a trip to England, they’ve probably had a nice chat with him, too.
