Newcastle have been very interested in Anderlecht’s Frank Acheampong for a while now.

The stories started last year, but with the Belgian club in the Europa League and Newcastle in the Championship, you can see why the player was reluctant to leave.

However, with the Magpies back in the Premier League, and the forward given an exit pass by his club in case a good offer lands on Anderlecht’s desk, it all seems more likely now.

The player dreams of a move to England’s top-tier, and DH on Friday report Rafael Benitez is still keeping an eye on the possibility of making a move for the Ghana international.

Anderlecht are said to still hold some hope of keeping the 23-year-old beyond this season with a lucrative contract, but if someone from the Premier League comes knocking, that seems to be his favoured destination, even if the Belgians will be in the Champions League next year.

Acheampong made 47 appearances for Anderlecht over the course of the season, scoring six goals and picking up five assists.
