Having now signed for Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo will be looking to continue his good start to the season, having scored in his first three games back at the Old Trafford side.
Previously with Juventus, the Portuguese tried his best to help the Serie A side win the Champions League, but it was something he was unable to do during his stint there under Max Allegri, Maurizio Sarri and Andrea Pirlo.
With the former manager now back at the helm, there was hope their previous successes in the competition (reaching the final) would be reciprocated, but their start to the season hasn’t exactly been exemplary.
While the previous mishaps weren’t entirely blamed on Cristiano Ronaldo, there was some finger pointing for his failure to take them to the next level, something he had previously done at other clubs.
He told FanPage in Italy: “It’s easy to blame Cristiano, but in the previous two years against Ajax and Lyon, he had scored, doing his duty. It was his teammates who betrayed him. The first year at Juventus, he also scored a hat-trick against Atlético, but it’s easy to blame him, as it happened with Messi at Barcelona for the eliminations against Roma and Liverpool”.
With a return to Manchester United now complete, there was hope, similar to Juventus’, that he could help them rectify their previous poor standings in the Champions League, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were unable to do that, even with him in the side, losing their opening game 2-1 to Young Boys.
