Newcastle United are pointed out today as one of the many clubs who are interested in Independiente youngster Alan Velasco.
It’s Argentine outlet El Intransigente who reports the race for the 18-year-old today, claiming his form has been attracting the eyes of foreign sides.
Their story is mostly focused on Parma, who are reportedly ‘coming with everything’ to get the winger. However, Club America from Mexico and Newcastle United are named as suitors as well.
El Intransigente says the youngster is protected with a contract which runs until 2023, and a release clause of US$23.5m (£17.5m). They say the timing of his departure from Independiente is now down to how good the offers will be.
It’s claimed that Independiente are going through a financial crisis, with judgements from FIFA, and making big sales would be a matter of survival for them.
So a good bid from Newcastle would definitely be well analysed by the Argentine side, even though we’re still to see more reports about the Magpies’ interest in Velasco.
