Spending the vast majority of his summer in the south of France recuperating from his Achilles operation and starting his physiotherapy, Laurent Koscielny is aiming for a November return at Arsenal.
Unable to take part in his country’s World Cup run and subsequent win, the veteran defender was glad to see his teammates succeed, even if he might have liked to be with them.
However, he isn’t ready to change his mind about his international future, as the Arsenal defender had previously announced he would retire from representing his country after the summer tournament.
At club level, things are different, since he’s contracted with the Gunners until 2020, and speaking to Var-Matin on Tuesday, Koscielny explained: “After? I think I’ll continue, but I don’t know where. It’s not something to think about now, anyways. I’m happy in England, as are my family.
“There will obviously be a lot of question marks. The most important is to have your health. I’ve learnt to put things in perspective, because there’s so many worse things in life.”
Whether he’ll slot straight into Unai Emery’s plans when he returns, we’ll have to wait and see, but the Arsenal defender has met the Spanish manager once, after his operation.
He continue: “He told me to take care of myself. The English league is more and more intense, and the battle for top four is fierce, because there’s loads of good teams.”
As for the Spaniard replacing Arsène Wenger, Koscielny just asks everyone to give their new manager a bit of time.
