Belgian side AA Gent are ‘already dreaming’ of a potential ‘mega deal’ with Liverpool for defender Momodou Sonko.
That’s according to Voetbal Nieuws, who say the Gent are hopeful Liverpool’s longstanding interest in the defender will benefit them in the near future.
They explain that while Gent are having an inconsistent season, a number of their young players are still hoping to make the step to a major competition in the future.
One of them, Sonko, has already attracted the attention of Liverpool, who were scouting him consistently at former club Häcken. Several reports had them as favourites to sign him before he headed to Belgium in a club record €7m deal in January.
The Buffalos are hoping that he can realise his potential and at 19-years-old there is still plenty of time for that to happen.
That’s because they know Liverpool are likely to come calling if he does, with the player having admitted in the past that the Reds were ‘following him closely’.
He didn’t move to Anfield because the step up would have been too big, they also didn’t make an offer for him, but the hope is that they’ve continued to watch from afar.
A transfer away is not ‘immediately necessary’ at this point but both he and Gent are certainly dreaming for the future after Liverpool’s interest in the recent past.
