Mohamed Salah has publicly claimed Liverpool haven’t offered him a new deal so far, despite his contract expiring at the end of the season.
The forward’s words made many headlines, with him stating he’s more out than in at Liverpiol right now.
Experienced agent Rob Jansen analysed the 32-year-old’s contract situation at Liverpool during Kieft Jansen Egmond Gijp podcast and his comments are relayed by Soccer News.
According to Jansen, Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is to be blamed for the Egypt international not receiving a renewal offer.
The agent manages Arne Slot’s assistant, Johnny Heitinga, and dealt with the Reds official when negotiating for his client. It’s to be noted Jansen doesn’t represent Salah and was only sharing his views on the player’s contract situation at Anfield.
“One thing Richard Hughes doesn’t have is any sense of empathy. Zero. He’s a robot. I know that because I negotiated with him, for Heitinga,” he said.
“There’s zero feelings in him. That may well be the reason. Especially with a player like Salah, who has emotion, has a different culture and is sensitive to warmth.”
The Egypt international has scored 12 goals and registered 10 assists from 18 games in all competitions this season, and that includes a winner in Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Southampton at the weekend.
Former PSV Eindhoven winger René van der Gijp is of the belief the Premier League side need to do everything they can to tie Salah down to a new contract.
“You would think if you are that club, that you would text Salah three times a day and send a bouquet of flowers twice a day?” Van der Gijp explained.
