Centre-back and a striker. Centre-back and a striker. Centre-back and a striker… Can you hear it too?
If you can and you’re wondering what it is, that’s the sound of Arsenal fans rocking back and forth as they wait for Arsène Wenger to buy a centre-back and a striker.
Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi is the number one target for the French manager, that’s not up for discussion, but there’s a big question mark regarding the quality of stock in the striker aisle.
Sure, there are some deals on offer, but are they good enough for a club that has a Waitrose just round the corner from their stadium?
Then came Julian Draxler.
The German winger made a big fuss over wanting to leave Wolfsburg this summer, only to be told to quietly sit down and play football.
The Bundesliga side reportedly want a lot of money for him (€80m+), so that went quiet, leading to a flurry of reports from France linking Riyad Mahrez with a move to the Emirates.
They also disappeared after it was made clear the Algerian winger wouldn’t be leaving Leicester City, and now we’re back to Draxler.
TuttoMercatoWeb on Wednesday claim to have an exclusive regarding Simone Zaza’s potential move to Wolfsburg, and, for good measure, they decided to throw the German forward into the mix and link him to Arsenal again.
The Italian website claim the German side would still want Zaza if they can get rid of Bas Dost, as well as apparently ‘being on the verge of accepting Arsène Wenger’s Arsenal’s for Julian Draxler: €50m for the former Schalke 04 attacking midfielder’.
We’re not sure where they’ve got this from, and it looks like it’s been plucked out of thin air, maybe to convince their readers Wolfsburg will have the money for Zaza if Draxler is sold?
Believe it if you want to, but for your sanity, we really wouldn’t recommend you doing so.
