Celta Vigo manager Claudio Giráldez has admitted he is confident over getting a deal for Wolves midfielder Fer López done this summer.

Impressive loan spell
Fer López returned on loan to Celta in the January transfer window after a disappointing spell at Wolves following a €23m move in the summer.
He struggled to settle at Molineux, barely featuring under Vitor Pereira or Rob Edwards, but has thrived again in Spain. He quickly became a key player for Celta, featuring in 76% of the available minutes in La Liga and 41% of the available minutes in the Europa League as well.
Both parties have made it clear that they’d like to continue the relationship beyond the summer, when his loan from Wolves ends.
Now Claudio Giráldez has answered directly, after being asked if a transfer is possible in the coming months.
“Yes, I believe so,” he said.
“The first thing is that the club wants him; the second is that the player wants to be here. Furthermore, I think everyone who cares about him has seen that he has developed significantly during his time here.
“Then, obviously, there are always contractual hurdles; there is another club involved—to which the player belongs, namely Wolverhampton. And we will see how we can manage to make it happen.”
Wolves demands
The question is what kind of deal Wolves are willing to sanction. They would surely want to get their money back in a sale. But Celta Vigo’s biggest ever transfer was Jorgen Strand Larsen’s €15.04 move in 2022.
Indeed, the Spanish side have only spent more than €10m on a player five times. One of those transfers happened in 2000/01.
So, a permanent deal for Fer López may prove to be difficult, even if Claudio Giráldez is willing to be publicly confident about it.
