Wolves' Fer Lopez is on a loan transfer at Celta Vigo
Wolves’ Fer Lopez is on a loan transfer at Celta Vigo

Wolves’ Fer López returned to Celta Vigo in January, months after leaving them for the Premier League side.

The La Liga side sold the attacking midfielder to Wolves for €23m in June 2025 and his sale helped them balance their books.

López didn’t get regular minutes with the English club and struggled to impress when given limited opportunities.

To put it in context, he failed to score and contributed one assist from 364 minutes over 12 matches for Wolves. The limited role saw him return to Celta Vigo on loan for the rest of this season.

Since moving back to Spain, the Wolves man has started to enjoy regular minutes.

His La Liga stats this season are as follows:

  • Appearances: 11
  • Starts: 8
  • Total minutes: 727
  • Minutes per game: 66
  • Goals: 1
  • Assists: 0
  • Expected goals: 0.82
  • Expected Assists: 0.79
  • Big chances created: 2
  • Big chances missed: 1

Earlier this month, the 21-year-old said he wanted to be happy again and is now enjoying at Celta Vigo.

On April 7th, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that his future after this season is wide open.

Wolves man clear about future plan

Celta Vigo wanted to sign him on loan for 18 months, but the Premier League side only let him join until the end of this season.

El Desmarque points it out and report Fer López wants to continue with the Spanish club next season. His agent, Jorge Mendes, is well aware of his transfer desire for the summer.

Wolves’ relegation from the top flight was confirmed earlier this week, and it’s unclear if it’ll have any impact on López’s desire to continue at Celta Vigo.

Celta Vigo president Marián Mouriño and sporting director, Marco Garcés, will have to start fresh talks with the English club for a new loan deal, probably with a buying option. It’s clear they won’t be able to offer the €23m fee received from Wolves last summer.

They faced certain challenges during negotiations in January. Taking this into account, the report state ‘another lengthy negotiation between Celta Vigo and Wolves is looming’.

Celta Vigo are now seventh, level on points with sixth placed Geatfe. There’s belief it’ll be easier to reach an agreement by securing a qualification for Europe. However, Wolves will have the final say on sanctioning another loan.

Our take: Mendes key for summer transfer

The super-agent has close ties with the English club, who will make several changes to their squad in the summer.

Jorge Mendes is aware of Fer López’s wish to continue at Celta Vigo and could use his good relationship with Wolves to help his client secure another loan move.

The representative has to play an important role in helping the player extend his stay in Spain.
