On Monday, we covered claims from Portugal that Wolves were getting a little nervous over selling Chiquinho to Sporting.
The slant was that the Premier League club had been stung by releasing Pedro Goncalves some years ago and didn’t want to make the same mistake this time around.
That largely ignored Goncalves himself since coming out and saying he just couldn’t settle in England at the age he moved.
Wednesday’s edition of Record states the Chiquinho has his ‘bags already packed’ but doesn’t know where he’s going. The options are a move to Sporting or a pre-season trip to the US with Wolves.
Record believe believe Gary O’Neil is determined to only take players on pre-season if he’s counting on them for the coming campaign.
They also see some significance in Chiquinho being given 20 minutes in the ill-fated friendly against Como.
Realistically, even if O’Neil doesn’t see a place for the 24-year-old winger, Wolves are hardly going to leave him at home unless a sale agreement is imminent.
Such a stance would not help negotiations.
The media around Sporting are being a little impatient and perhaps should concentrate on the Lisbon side offering a good enough fee… and likely including a buyback clause for Wolves.
