Darwin Núñez’s future could be away from Liverpool after this season.
The Uruguay international has already been linked to a few European clubs. Earlier this week, D Sports came up with a shock claim that the striker has been offered to River Plate.
They also stated the Liverpool player could join the Argentine club before the Club World Cup kicks off in June. In addition to the 25-year-old, Benfica’s Ángel Di María has been linked with a move to River Plate.
On Thursday [local time], the Argentine club secured a 3-2 win over Barcelona SC in the Copa Libertadores. Prior to the tie, River Plate general secretary Stefano Di Carlo spoke to TyC Sports to address the recent reports linking them to Núñez and Di Maria.
The River Plate official has wasted no time in dismissing any interest in both the Liverpool player and the winger.
“All those names are false. River made a strong transfer market in January. Of course, they will surgically seek out and strengthen certain positions; but that will happen when the transfer market opens. Everything that was said is not real,” he said.
A move to River Plate has therefore been ruled out for Núñez in the summer window.
The Uruguayan has seen his game time limited in the past two months as Arne Slot has used him a substitute in the Premier League. A move away from Liverpool could be on the cards for Núñez.
