Leeds United are among the clubs said to be in the picture to sign Marseille’s Leonardo Balerdi in the summer window.
These claims originated in the UK, where it was even stated the Whites could make an offer for the 26-year-old.
This has reached the French media, with Foot Mercato relaying claims that Leeds will soon submit a bid. In addition to Daniel Farke’s side, AS Roma are credited with interest in the centre-back.
The Argentina international has a contract until 2028 and Roberto De Zerbi’s side are said to be asking for €45m to sanction his sale.
Amid claims of Leeds and Roma’s interest, ici Provence asked the defender whether he will still be at the club next season and Foot Mercato have relayed his comments.
When responding to that, the player made it clear that his immediate focus is to finish the season on a brighter note by helping Marseille qualify for the Champions League.
They are second, a point behind third placed AS Monaco and two behind OGC Nice, Lille and RC Strasbourg, who are fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
“I can’t say that. But I say it every year: I’m very happy in Marseille. I feel good. I’ve always said I’d like to bring something back here to Marseille. I still have that goal. Now, I have to focus on the last match,” he said.
“After that, we’ll see about the transfer window, but I haven’t looked at the offers, I’m 100% here at OM. For me, that’s the most important thing.”
“After that, I don’t know. I’d like the team to be in the Champions League and then I’ll ask myself about my future.”
Balerdi doesn’t rule out a transfer amid claims of Leeds’ interest.
