On April 17th, we covered claims from Portugal that Leeds United are a serious candidate to sign Sporting’s Hidemasa Morita in the summer window. It was also stated the Whites were waiting to secure promotion to the Premier League before making an offer.
A few days later, Leeds secured direct promotion to the top flight, along with Burnley.
On Friday, Record reported the Championship winners are well placed to sign the 29-year-old. They also said €8m will be enough to take him away from the Lions.

The Japan international is happy in Portugal but dreams of a move to a more competitive league, particularly the Premier League. His contract expires in 2026 and he hasn’t signed an extension.
Leeds, as per the report, recently made contact for the player, and are the only club named in the report. At this point in time, Daniel Farke’s side haven’t made a concrete offer.
Sporting have failed with their latest attempt to renew the player’s contract. Maisfutebol state they won’t sell Morita cheaply even if it means losing him for free in 2026, and will make one last attempt to try and renew his contract.
The report makes no mention of the fee needed to convince Sporting to sell Morita.
