Earlier this week, Corriere della Sera reported AS Roma have contacted the entourage of Tottenham’s Mathys Tel.

The Frenchman is seen as a credible target by manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who wants to strengthen the attack in January.

Tottenham’s stance about Tel’s future was unknown. It now seems like Roma’s interest was built on the player’s low game time at Spurs and hope is fading away.

Il Messaggero report that the Italian side are about to raise the white flag in the chase of Tel.

A deal for the 20-year-old is believed to be increasingly complicated. This is because Tel is now more regularly involved under Thomas Frank after a disappointing start to the season. He was also registered for the Champions League squad this week, having been initially excluded.

The youngster played 30 minutes in Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Slavia Prague on Tuesday. He already has two Premier League goals, scoring against Manchester United some weeks ago.

Tottenham parting ways in January makes less sense now than it ever has.
