Lautaro Rivero has been linked with a host of clubs across Europe and Brighton & Hove Albion have a shot at a deal.

The 22-year-old has now played 44 times in all competitions for River Plate since the 2025 campaign. In the ongoing season though, his prominence has reduced. The defender has played 28 times in all competitions, but has been left on the bench several times in the Clausura.

The centre-back does have one appearance for Argentina though, and this came back in 2025.

Since then, his value has dropped and Brighton can now land him for a favourable figure.

Player being offered around

Tuttomercatoweb note that River are in deep financial and structural trouble. They are looking to overhaul their squad because of that and Rivero is a major candidate to help them earn money to meet those objectives.

The outlet note that the player’s valuation was around €15m at the time he made his debut for Argentina. But his stock has now declined, forcing River to consider a sale.

Rivero has been offered to Italian clubs like Bologna and Udinese. But for now, they aren’t looking to meet his valuation, which stands at €10m.

The Rossoblu will struggle to pay over €6m, with Brighton also tracking the situation closely. They can find it easier to afford that figure, with no other clubs having held concrete discussions yet.

Our take: Seagulls can take opportunity

Everything indicates that River and those around Rivero could desire a transfer to England. This has led to links with other Premier League sides in the past but nothing materialised.

Brighton can now have an advantage and they can capitalise on River’s situation.
