Augustine Chike Mbah has missed out on the opportunity to join Queens Park Rangers, after visiting the Championship side.
The Nigerian is a product of Lagos-based Bilda Football Academy and his development there had caught QPR’s attention.
Julien Stéphan’s side invited the winger to have a trial with them, and he even made a trip to London earlier this year.
After the trial, the English club decided against signing the 19-year-old. This allowed OFK Beograd to wrap up his signing from Bilda Football Academy on September 11th.
Winger enjoying after missing out on QPR
The Serbian club have included him in their U19 squad, and the left winger has a goal in 411 minutes from six matches so far.
Former Nigerian striker Abiola Dauda is working as an agent and has been speaking to Africa Foot. He talked about Leonard Ngenge’s move to Leeds United in January and backed the defender to have a successful career.
The representative also gace his take on why QPR decided against signing Augustine Chike Mbah.
“Yes, he had a trial at QPR. It didn’t work out because they were looking for players in different positions. Most of the players they selected were defenders,” he said.
“The presence of African players in Scandinavian clubs is very important because it brings them a lot of money while they spend less. The Swedish league, the Allsvenskan, is one of the best places for African players to develop and take the next steps in their careers.”
Why QPR should have signed Mbah
In the summer window, QPR brought in six players to the club. Out of that, Calum Ward was the only permanent transfer, and three were free signings.
The remaining two, Glen Kamara and Pierce Charles, arrived on loan from Stade Rennais and Manchester City respectively.
Julien Stéphan now has Koki Saito as the only recognised left winger at his disposal. Had QPR signed Augustine Chike Mbah, the manager may have considered him as a backup for Saito or let him get minutes with the youth teams.
