West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez is “looking for an exit strategy” for the January transfer window.

The midfielder currently finds himself out of the picture at the London Stadium, with manager Nuno Espirito Santo preferring other options.

The 29-year-old is yet to make an appearance in the Championship this season. His only minutes have come in the EFL Cup first round clash with Portsmouth.

He’s not featured in a West Ham squad since that game. All indications are that West Ham want him to move on, preferably in the January transfer window.

Future questions

Sport Witness have already reported on the developing situation around his future. Earlier this month it was made clear that the situation would force the Mexican to look for a new club in January.

Reports in Spain then indicated that his agent had met with Valencia. The suggestion was that he could reunite with former Mexico coach Javier Aguirre at the Mestalla.

That has since been shot down, although it remains a possibility that Alvarez and his entourage could explore in the coming months.

Alvarez will need to find a new club as, currently, his lack of minutes mean he is unlikely to feature for Mexico in the next international break. Gibrán Araige, reporting for TUDN, says that his entourage are already working on options.

“There is genuine concern within the coaching staff regarding the situation in Europe,” he said.

“Edson Álvarez will likely be left out again because he isn’t getting minutes, the same goes for Luis Chávez. Edson is being left out. And it’s not really about off-field issues; he simply isn’t getting any playing time at West Ham.

“I know that those managing his career are already looking for an exit strategy so he can move to another team in January.”

Off-field issues

For those that aren’t aware of the off-field issues, they have certainly been plenty for the West Ham man in recent months.

First, he was accused of being involved in a kidnapping plot. That is something that he and his representatives firmly denied on social media.

Then, earlier this month, the same accuser insisted that he had evidence of Alvarez and his representatives being involved in a COVID-19 certificate scam. That’s something the West Ham midfielder is yet to respond to.

Either way, the midfielder finds himself in the middle of a storm on and off the pitch. And it seems his agents are working to try and at least solve one of those problems.
