AS Roma have been hunting for a forward and in the past few weeks, Tottenham’s Mathys Tel has repeatedly been named as a target.
The Frenchman has been seen as an opportunity due to his lack of game time under Thomas Frank. Corriere della Sera have an update on Roma’s interest in the 20-year-old.
Joshua Zirkzee had been the main target for the Serie A club. However, Manchester United want to wait until after AFCON to make sure they’re not short of numbers.
Giallorossi manager Gian Piero Gasperini has given the green light to signing Tel as an alternative. Subsequently, the Tottenham player’s agent has been contacted, but that’s as far as things have gone at this stage.
Similar to how it’s gone with Zirkzee, Roma may well find that signing Tel in January will be harder than they hope.
So far this season, he’s played only 267 minutes in the Premier League. Despite that, he has scored twice and shown he can make an impact.
Thomas Frank and co may not want to give up just yet.
