There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Çaykur Rizespor are showing interest in Watford forward Mamadou Doumbia.

The 19-year-old has now returned to Vicarage Road following Mali’s AFCON quarter final defeat to Senegal.

Fotomac report on Çaykur Rizespor’s pursuit for a forward, after Jesurun Rak-Sakyi recently returned to Crystal Palace.

The 23-year-old joined the Super Lig side on a season-long deal last summer, but his stay has been cut short. During his time in Turkey Rak-Sakyi he made 13 appearances, scoring four goals.

However, it’s claimed his return to England was via Crystal Palace’s request. What the Eagles now plan to do with him is unclear.

Swansea City are reportedly keen to take the player on loan for the remainder of the season. Stoke City have also been linked in recent days.

Subsequently, Çaykur Rizespor are back in the market for an attacker and have identified the Watford attacker. The Black Sea club find themselves close to the relegation places and are keen to add to their squad this month.

No clarity on offer to Watford

At this stage there are no reports clarifying whether Çaykur Rizespor are in transfer talks or have tabled an offer with Watford.

However, it’s unlikely Paulo Pezzolano will sanction a transfer for one of his regular players, with the Hornets currently in the play-off places. After four league wins in a row they currently lie in 6th position. Given they’re only five points behind 2nd placed Middlesbrough, there’s justified optimism that promotion isn’t out of reach.

Signed from Malian side AS Black Stars in 2004, Mamadou Doumbia has made 38 appearances for Watford.

He’s also been capped four times by his country, but didn’t manage to get off the bench once during AFCON.

Doumbia has made 11 league appearances this season, but has missed the last 5 games due to the tournament. He’s contracted with Watford until June 2029.

Burnley were interested in the summer, but there’s no suggestion they’ll return.
