Manchester United have identified Barcelona’s Fermín López as a target and have already held talks earlier this month.
Last season, the attacking midfielder impressed for the La Liga winners, managing 13 goals and 17 assists. He missed the World Cup with Spain because of an injury and has continued to shine since regaining full fitness.
This season, the Barcelona star has five goals and four assists from 12 matches, and he has now ended up on Manchester United’s transfer agenda.
Manchester United’s approach

On Friday, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain explaining that the Red Devils held multiple meetings for Fermín López and Atlético Madrid’s Pablo Barrios. These talks took place when they visited Madrid to face Los Rojiblancos in the Champions League.
Diego Simeone’s side have no intention of letting Barrios leave. However, Barcelona have to raise funds either in January or next summer. Taking this into account, there’s a belief that the La Liga winners would be open to selling the 23-year-old.
Sport relays this report and explains the Old Trafford club are very keen about the Spain international and Barrios.
They share the Catalan club’s stance in the face of a potential ‘madness from Manchester United’ over signing López.
Manchester United move ruled out
The newspaper wastes no time dismissing the possibility of the academy graduate leaving the Camp Nou.
Fermín López is a key member of Hansi Flick’s squad and Barcelona also appreciate him a lot. This was shown when the Spanish champions offered him a new contract [until 2031] in January.
The player is also happy at the Camp Nou and isn’t considering leaving the club. In short, Barca and the attacker have no plans to end their association, and this makes it almost impossible for Manchester United to sign him soon.
Sport ends their report by taking a dig at Michael Carrick’s side.
They state: ‘The transfer market is active, and teams, looking to strengthen their squads, are exploring options. This is especially true for United, who continue their freefall and can’t seem to find a way to turn their season around.’
