Tottenham Hotspur have improved their defence by signing Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Prior to completing the deal for the Netherlands international, Spurs showed interest in Royale Union Saint-Gilloise’s Anan Khalaili.

At the start of this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Belgium that Tottenham are keen on Khalaili, valued at €25m.

The Premier League side are still keen on signing the Israel international.

Serie A sides face Tottenham threat

Het Laatste Nieuws journalist Geert Lambaerts has backed up Spurs’ desire to sign the 21-year-old. He mentioned this on Radio Napoli Centrale, relayed by Napoli Magazine.

Lambaerts claims Inter Milan and Napoli have made approaches to sign the centre-back. The Serie A duo have to be wary of Roberto De Zerbi’s side, who can rival them in the transfer race.

“The latest on Khalaili? We learned from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on Sunday that Inter has begun making contact with the club. Napoli has been interested in the player for weeks now. Inter could be a rival to Napoli for this player. Tottenham is still in the mix, and there’s also talk of Newcastle,” he said.

The Belgian club are preparing to part ways with Anan Khalaili.

“We don’t know if the player prefers Napoli or Inter. We don’t think it will drag on for long because Union has already started looking for a replacement,” Lambaerts explained.

Meanwhile, Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna confirmed several clubs are interested in the defender. Sport Mediaset have relayed his comments.

“Khalaili is an interesting young prospect, like many others. He’s not just of interest to Napoli, but to many clubs,” he added.

Why Khalaili may not favour Tottenham

Last week, Anan Khalaili’s agent Boaz Goren told Israel’s ONE that he will only join a club that will assure him an important role.

“Ultimately, the decision, if and when it is made, will be a professional one. What will guide us is the place where Anan can continue to develop, get playing time, and advance to the next level. That has always been our guiding principle,” the agent said.

Roberto De Zerbi has Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke and four more centre-backs at Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs will have the centre-back position well covered even if one or two leave.
