Today’s Corriere dello Sport covers West Ham United interest in Santiago Gimenez and, strangely, adds Southampton to the mix.

The newspaper believe that the Mexican isn’t viewed a good fit for Max Allegri’s system at AC Milan. A January exit is a major possibility, with the player having failed to find the back of the net once in Serie A this season.

Over the past few weeks, Sunderland have been mentioned as a potential destination for the 24-year-old. That is why adding Southampton to the mix seems like a huge mistake.

The Saints are mid-table in the Championship and have been going through a period of instability. Gimenez boasts major experience of playing in European competitions and him potentially moving to Southampton seems far from realistic.

Throwing the name Southampton in there, simply looks like a genuine mistake from the Italian newspaper. Sunderland have been linked endlessly, and with no mention of them in the report it looks obvious what’s happened.

The striker had his bags backed in the summer before a move to AS Roma fell through. He also snubbed interest coming from Nottingham Forest.
