Brighton and Hove Albion face a ‘ticking time bomb’ with Maxim de Cuyper, who is yet to define his role at the club.
That’s according to Voetbal Nieuws. They have a somewhat dramatic take on the Brighton defender today.
They explain that De Cuyper will have been left with a ‘strange feeling’ once again this weekend. He was one of the stars of the show in Brighton’s win over Nottingham Forest.
It was one of those nights when a player does everything his manager asks of him, but VN say behind the smile ‘one questions nags’. If Brighton are so excited about his performances, why haven’t they made a clear decision about his role.
The feeling is that Fabian Hürzeler is undecided about the Brighton defender. He likes him when his side are expected to attack games but doesn’t trust him defensively in others. VN believe De Cuyper is ‘intriguing and so frustrating’ all at the same time.
Attacking wise, he’s close to the top ten or fifteen when it comes to attacking stats, but defensively he’s at the bottom. It’s left the player somewhat stuck in the middle. He’s not established himself as first-choice, but he’s not out of the picture either.
That’s a problem which will need to be resolved. They need to make a clear decision about his role, and how to move forwards. Otherwise, Brighton risk a ‘ticking time bomb’ with their full-back.
