Harry Kane secured a Ballon d’Or clause when he joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023.
The Bavarian club paid Tottenham €100m in fixed fee plus €10m bonuses to secure the striker’s services.
He also became the most expensive Bundesliga signing, surpassing the €85m invested by Bayern Munich to sign Lucas Hernández from Atlético Madrid in 2019.
Kane moved to Germany after spending 19 years at the north London club. He managed 280 goals and 63 assists for Spurs’ first team.
Tottenham won’t earn more
The England international has regularly starred for Bayern Munich, scoring 156 goals and contributing 42 assists from 161 matches.
He finished with 61 goals and seven assists last season, and starred at the World Cup, managing six goals and an assist. The striker has 10 goals and nine assists so far this season.
Last week, Harry Kane won the Ballon d’Or 2026, becoming the first England player to win it since Michael Owen in 2021.
Three days later, Sport Witness covered a report from Germany that Tottenham Hotspur didn’t include a Ballon d’Or clause while selling him to the Bundesliga winners.
Details of star’s special clause
Wednesday’s edition of Bild reports about a clause that the 33-year-old agreed upon his arrival at the Allianz Arena from Tottenham Hotspur.
The ‘special clause’ means a payment of just over €1m.
The agreement was between him and the German champions, and Spurs neglected to secure a clause of their own.
This came into effect when the frontman won the Ballon d’Or 2026 on October 26th. He will now collect an additional €1m while Roberto De Zerbi’s side are left empty handed.
Speaking to SportBild, Kane says he has to find a place to keep his latest award.
“I have a trophy room in my house where it is at the moment,” he said.
“It’s there next to my SPORT BILD Award. I’m going to talk to the club about whether we should put the Ballon d’Or in the Bayern Museum. I think that’s where it belongs. Also, so that the fans can see it.”
