Rangers are inevitably on the hunt for a new manager after Russell Martin’s period in charge at Ibrox came to an end. Many supporters questioned Martin when he was appointed and whether his record said he’d be right for Rangers.

Terrible results and poor performances from Rangers, both domestically and in Europe, piled the pressure on. For weeks it’s felt like a matter of when and not if Russell Martin would be sacked. Following Rangers drawing 1-1 with Falkirk at the weekend, the club decided to take action.

That we’re now in an international break gives some breathing space. That’s why it’s a popular time to make a managerial change.

Rangers don’t appear to have a firm option nailed on to take the job. It’s now a case of seeing who is available and may success at Ibrox.

Just as Russell Martin is leaving Rangers, there’s an exit in the Chinese Super League. Quique Setién has departed Beijing Guoan, with personal reasons behind the manager’s decision, report AS. Reading between the lines it would appear China was just too far away from family.

He arrived in December and has done a solid job, with Beijing Guoan 4th and with 19 wins, 7 draws and six defeats from 32 matches. The Spaniard was Manager of the Month in both May and June.

Quique Setién has previously managed clubs including Real Betis, Barcelona and Villarreal.

Another free agent option for Rangers to consider.
