Sunderland‘s Enzo Le Fée says he’s not focusing on making it to France manager Zinedine Zidane’s first list on Friday.
Didier Deschamps was in charge of the national team for 14 years before stepping down in July.
During his time with Les Bleus, Deschamps never called up the Sunderland player.
The midfielder graduated from FC Lorient’s academy and spent four years with their first team. He left them for Stade Rennais in 2023 before the latter sold him to AS Roma a year later.
Le Fée struggled in Italy and joined Sunderland on loan in January 2025. Later that year, he made his stay permanent upon their return to the Premier League. The player is a regular under Régis Le Bris, but that wasn’t enough to convince Deschamps.
Zidane appointment positive for Sunderland man
Enzo Le Fée has represented France U20, U21 and even their Olympic Team. However, he’s yet to make his senior debut.
France have appointed Zinedine Zidane as their new manager, and he has included the 26-year-old in his preliminary squad for the upcoming international break. The early signs are positive, and the manager will announce his final list on Friday.
The Black Cats returned to Europe for the first time in 53 years and started their Europa League campaign with a 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar.
Omar Alderete suffered a muscle injury, and the setback doesn’t seem to be serious. Le Fée scored the winner for his side.
Sunderland player on potential NT call-up
After the match, Enzo Le Fée spoke to Canal+ and Foot Mercato have relayed his quotes about potentially making it to Zinedine Zidane’s final list.
“I’ll look at the squad list as I always have since I turned professional. I’m happy to sometimes see new faces and people I’ve played with get their first call-up,” he said.
“It’s not something I’m focusing on. I’m focusing on what I’m doing with my club. That’s what will determine whether or not I’m selected one day.”
“As you said, I’ve been shortlisted for the first time, which is great. I’m concentrating on what’s happening here, and if it happens one day, it will be pure joy.”
France will face Turkey and Belgium in September and Italy and Belgium in October in the UEFA Nations League.
