On Monday, Alfredo Pedullà stated Luis Muriel won’t go to Newcastle United this summer.

The forward’s refusal to join the Magpies has not stopped reports linking him to them.

According to Tuttosport, the Serie A side are recording the ‘concrete and pressing interest’ of Nottingham Forest for Remo Freuler and the ‘very rich Newcastle for Luis Muriel’. The latter is also ‘always followed’ by Juventus.

Atalanta faced the Tyneside club in a pre-season friendly at St James’ Park towards the end of July and the 31-year-old started the tie for the visitors.

Calciomercato state Newcastle will ‘challenge’ Juve to sign the Colombia international. The Old Lady were ‘perplexed’ with the €15m fee requested by Atalanta president, Antonio Percassi. Eddie Howe’s side, on the other hand, share a different opinion.

The Tyneside club were ‘bewitched’ by Muriel’s movements during the friendly tie against Atalanta, that they ‘immediately asked for information’ about him. Howe’s side are of the belief the South American can be a ‘low-cost’ option this summer.

Muriel’s age ‘doesn’t scare’ Newcastle, while Juve, who have slowed down, are willing to pay only €10-12m for the attacker.

If Muriel’s suitors can convince both him and Atalanta for a move, there is a potential deal to be carried out before the window closes.
