A Turkish outlet just reported that Manchester United are on the verge of signing Ferdi Kadıoğlu from Brighton for €46.8m (£40m).
As Marca say the 27-year-old is “about to” move to Manchester United, with Brighton receiving €46.8m (£40m) for the left-back.
They add that Fenerbahçe would be due 10% of the transfer fee. The Turkish club would therefore receive around €4.7m (£4m), according to their figures.
A big Manchester United claim
There’s no suggestion in the report of negotiations still needing to take place. As Marca present the move as being close to completion.
That’s obviously significant if accurate. It would also explain why the information has surfaced in Türkiye, given Fenerbahçe’s financial interest in any Brighton sale.
For now, though, we’d put a fairly large asterisk next to the story. There has been little elsewhere to suggest Manchester United are this far down the road with Kadıoğlu. A €46.8m (£40m) transfer being close to completion would usually generate considerably more noise.
There’s also some useful context from Türkiye itself. Just last week, Kadıoğlu was being linked with a return to Fenerbahçe.
Journalist Sercan Hamzaoğlu quickly dismissed that possibility. But that was specifically a denial of a Fenerbahçe transfer. It doesn’t rule out Kadıoğlu swapping Brighton for Manchester United.
Still, there was certainly no indication there that the defender was pushing to leave the Seagulls.
Brighton would have a decision to make
The other question here is what Brighton would make of a €46.8m (£40m) offer. Kadıoğlu remains useful to them on both sides of defence. Maxim de Cuyper provides another natural option on the left, while the Turkey international can also operate at right-back.
Losing him this late in the window would therefore leave Brighton with work to do, unless they already have another solution lined up.
The Turkish report believe Manchester United are considerably further along than that and present the €46.8m (£40m) transfer as close.
For now, it’s a claim worth keeping an eye on, while also waiting for something more substantial to back it up.
