Manchester United have joined La Liga sides in pursuing Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas this summer.

On August 7th, we relayed news Manchester United are willing to pay his €16m release clause.

Racing Santander sporting director Chema Aragón confirmed the left-back will only leave if there’s a €16m offer.

Atlético Madrid and Barcelona have shown interest. Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Los Rojiblancos will make advances after selling Matteo Ruggeri to Aston Villa.

The Villans have completed Matteo Ruggeri’s signing on Wednesday while the Madrid club are yet to sign Jorge Salinas.

Infobae covers the latest on Diego Simeone’s side and Manchester United’s interest in Salinas.

Atlético Madrid are finding it difficult to sign the defender and this gives the Old Trafford club a fresh opportunity.

The former have already made a €14m proposal, rejected by Racing Santander. Atlético sporting director Mateu Alemany hasn’t convinced his counterpart, Chema Aragón, who is referring to the 19-year-old’s clause.

Atlético face Manchester United threat

Jorge Salinas’ contract expires in 2029, and Racing Santander have offered an improved deal. He hasn’t responded yet and is waiting to see if there’ll be any concrete movements in this window.

There are expectations for Los Rojiblancos to push to sign the Spain U19 international in the final stretch of the window. That hasn’t happened yet, and the delay has allowed Manchester United ‘burst into the negotiations’.

Michael Carrick’s side enter the bidding war for the youngster and are threating Atlético Madrid.

Faced with the competition, the Spanish giants have set a deadline, of this weekend, to complete his signing. If not, they could walk away, leaving the Red Devils an easy route to sign Salinas.

Chema Aragón admits the ongoing transfer claims aren’t bothering the player, who made his La Liga debut against Villarreal last weekend.

“You’re all going on about this every day. First, it’s about the release clause; then, it’s about one club or another… Thankfully, the kid is focused. If someone comes along, brings the €16m, and the boy likes the team, he’ll leave,” he said.
