Jimmy Thelin is in the running to become the Sheffield Wednesday manager, after the League One side parted ways with Henrik Pedersen on Monday.
Pedersen joined the English club in July 2025 when they were in the Championship. He decided against leaving the Owls despite their financial troubles and relegation to the third division.
This season, Sheffield Wednesday enjoyed a good run under the Dane’s orders, losing three of the 15 matches. This includes a nine-match unbeaten run since the 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the EFL Cup in August.
Pedersen unhappy with Sheffield Wednesday exit
Earlier this month, the League One side suffered back-to-back league defeats to Notts County and Doncaster Rovers. Two days after the defeat to the latter, the Owls parted ways with Henrik Pedersen.
On Wednesday, the 48-year-old said Sheffield Wednesday’s decision to show him the exit door came as a surprise.
He said: “I didn’t see it coming, I definitely thought there would be a longer string than losing two games after a strong, strong period. I was called in, and then it was done. It was a short process.”
“I knew it would be a difficult start with 18 new players and League One having 46 games in total, so there’s not much time to train. But we’ve been really stable and have grown a lot. After nine unbeaten games and then losing two, it’s of course a shock to be fired on the basis of that.”
Sheffield Wednesday working on new appointment
The Owls have appointed Matt Hamshaw as interim manager while the search for the permanent manager is ongoing.
Jimmy Thelin could be Henrik Pedersen’s successor at Sheffield Wednesday, and Expressen cover the latest. The manager has been without a job since leaving Aberdeen in January.
In fact, the report states the 48-year-old Swede is one of the main candidates to become the League One side’s next manager. There’s no further explanation as to why he’s one of the main candidates.
He won the Scottish Cup with Aberdeen during the 2024/25 season and took them to the UEFA Conference League. His work there had attracted interest from several Scandinavian clubs.
Thelin would be open to accepting the Sheffield Wednesday job as they can help him fulfil his dream of managing in England.
Swede’s record with Aberdeen:
- Matches: 80
- Wins: 34
- Draws: 15
- Loses: 31
- Goals scored: 113
- Goals conceded: 118
