Celtic are working on signing Hajduk Split’s Niko Sigur and have made advances. Martin O’Neill’s side will face competition from Leeds United, Coventry City and others this summer.
The Scottish champions came close to signing the 22-year-old in January before the move collapsed.
On August 13th, Sport Witness covered a report from Croatia explaining that Celtic’s bid should arrive soon. Leeds United and Coventry City have joined them in the transfer race.

His performances for club and country have seen him attract interest from Celtic, Leeds United, Coventry City and others.
Valencia are the latest club to join the race for the versatile player’s signature. The La Liga side have to be wary of the Whites, Frank Lampard’s side, Celtic and Toulouse as these clubs also want to sign him.
Celtic ahead of Leeds United and Coventry City
Among these clubs, Martin O’Neill’s side are the ‘closest to bringing in’ Niko Sigur in this window. This is probably because Celtic are the ones to have tabled an offer of around €3.5m.
This isn’t enough to convince Hajduk Split, who are demanding €4-5m to sanction his sale. This the only reason why the Canada international is still at the Croatian club.
In other words, the Scottish Premiership side have to raise their offer slightly to convince Hajduk Split.
Sigur wants to leave and his club are ready to sanction a move. The expectation is for him to complete a move in the coming days. It remains to be seen where he will end up in the final week of the window.
It’s unclear whether Celtic are willing to raise the offer. Leeds United, Coventry City and other suitors can get ahead of them by convincing the player and offering at least €4m to Hajduk.
