Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso has insisted he won’t be heading to Tottenham or anywhere else in January, despite them having a clause to buy him.
Estadio Deportivo cover comments from the American today in which he insists he’s remaining at Betis and dismisses the prospect of a move next month.
The newspaper explains that the Betis midfielder accompanied manager Manuel Pellegrini for the press conference ahead of the game against Helsinki in the Conference League.
They say that he ‘showed himself ambitious’ while reviewing his physical condition after an untimely injury and then ‘spoke emphatically’ about his short-term plans.
He has been linked with a move away from the Spanish club in the January transfer window, with it well established that Tottenham hold a clause to buy him after selling Giovani Lo Celso to the club in the summer transfer window.
That clause is for next summer, but Tottenham’s injury problems have led to suggestions they may move earlier than expected to help bolster Ange Postecoglou’s options.
Cardoso wants to put an end to that, though, insisting he’s not thinking about is future and ‘doesn’t care’ for such rumours.
“I don’t think about my future at all, because my future is at stake now,” he said.
“I am very happy here at Betis and I want to continue here, playing and helping the team in everything I can.”
