Wolverhampton Wanderers‘ David Møller Wolfe says he would be happy to join Hamburg SV permanently, after a good start to his life in Germany.

The Norway international joined Wolves from AZ Alkmaar in August 2025. Operating as a left wing-back and a left-back, he played 1,320 minutes from 29 matches in his debut season.

Wolves dropped out of the Premier League and on deadline day, the 24-year-old secured a loan move to Hamburg.

Wolfe has started in every Bundesliga fixture for his new club, playing 341 minutes from four matches.

War to secure Wolves exit

He played two matches for Wolves this season prior to the loan move to Germany. On September 3rd, David Møller Wolfe’s agent Stig Lillejord explained it wasn’t easy to take his client away from the Championship side.

At that time, he said: “We thought we were on target before the weekend, and then things came up from Wolverhampton. In the end, we were able to fix it up. It has been a war.”

A day later, Hamburg chief scout Sebastian Dirscherl revealed the Wolves man has been on their radar for a while. They maintained regular contact with his agent, which opened the door for the summer move.

The Norwegian prefers to operate on the left side and played as a left wing-back in the first three matches. Last weekend, Hamburg manager Merlin Polzin started him as a right wing-back in the 3-2 win over TSG Hoffenheim.

Wolves man happy in Germany

David Møller Wolfe has been speaking to Bild to explain the change of role isn’t a problem for him.

“I felt that the coaching staff had a lot of faith in me. That made the transition much easier. The video analysis before the Hoffenheim game wasn’t much different than usual,” he said.

“Driving on the left during my time at Wolverhampton in England caused me more problems than playing on the unfamiliar right side.”

The German club have also agreed a €14.5m purchase option with César Peixoto’s side. If it’s up to the Wolves owned player, he will join them permanently.

“It’s not up to me, but I would be very happy about it [staying after this season],” Wolfe explained.

“My girlfriend Kristin and I are currently discovering the many beautiful corners of this city, visiting lots of cafes and restaurants. We especially like everything around Isestraße in Eppendorf and the Winterhude district.”

His contract at Molineux runs until 2030. If Hamburg exercise the purchase clause, the Championship side can’t stop the defender’s permanent exit.

It’s early in the season to suggest whether the Bundesliga side want to buy him, either by activating the clause or for a lower price next summer.
