Manchester United have set their sights on Real Betis star Troy Parrott and are sending officials to Spain to follow him closely.

The Republic of Ireland international’s performances for Real Betis and the national team aren’t going unnoticed. Manchester United are showing interest in the striker, who joined the La Liga side from AZ Alkmaar in the summer.

Parrott graduated from Tottenham Hotspur’s academy, however, he couldn’t cement a place in their first team. After a few loan spells in England and at Excelsior in the Netherlands, he left them for AZ Alkmaar in 2024.

The move worked out well as he managed 20 goals and five assists in his debut season. Last season, he scored 31 goals and contributed 12 assists from 48 matches for the Dutch club.

West Ham United showed interest before Los Verdiblancos wrapped up his signing for around €20m in August.

Troy Parrott has two goals and assist for the La Liga side and managed three goals and an assist for Ireland during the last international break.

There were reports of Tottenham Hotspur wanting to bring him back, and Real Betis have no intention of entertaining these links.

Fichero states Troy Parrott’s impressive displays have ‘sparked serious interest’ from the Premier League, and only mention Manchester United.

The Red Devils are looking for a striker with potential, capable of creating an immediate impact. This is where the 24-year-old comes into the picture because of his ‘link-up play, physical strength, and clinical finishing’.

Manchester United send officials

The Old Trafford club’s officials are keeping a close watch on the former Spurs man. They have sent scouts to watch him live in action for Real Betis, both in the league and the Champions League.

Although Michael Carrick’s side are keen, there’s no indication of making further advances to sign the frontman.

Troy Parrott has a contract until 2031, and Transfermarkt value him at €20m. He has an €80m clause, and Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo will refer to this for any suitors.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side are calm because of the clause.

Benjamin Šeško is the first-choice striker at Manchester United. However, the Slovenian has struggled with injuries and is currently on the sidelines. There are genuine concerns in his country about the latest injury and there’s no clarity on when he will feature again.

If he spends a long spell on the sidelines, Manchester United have to sign a new No.9 in January. Whether that will Parrott or another striker remains to be seen.
