Crystal Palace summer signing Dario Osorio needs to look at Michael Olise to progress to the player that he can be.

That’s the opinion of Chilean icon Arturo Vidal, who has been speaking about the 22-year-old this week.

He was a guest on Chilean TV for Chile’s friendly with the USA. And the Crystal Palace man was the subject of conversation during half-time as a result.

Areas to improve

The Colo-Colo midfielder was keen to assess the Crystal Palace man and outline the areas he needs to refine to truly break through both with Chile and in European football.

“Look, I do know Osorio; I know his quality, and expectations have always been high for him,” he said.

“Now, I want him to prove it and take that step toward maturity. Once he’s convinced, he has the talent to play for the best teams in the world, his game will change significantly. I still see him as raw.

“Based on his personality, you can tell he doesn’t yet have that ‘I am Osorio’ confidence – knowing ‘I’m fast, I have technique, I can score goals.’

“Hopefully, this move to Crystal Palace helps him feel capable of competing against anyone, because he has incredible talent – he really does – he just hasn’t shown it yet.”

Olise used as an example

The midfielder then went on to provide an example for Osorio to follow – Michael Olise. He also enjoyed his breakthrough at Selhurst Park, before a €53m move to Bayern Munich in 2024.

The Frenchman has gone from strength to strength under Vincent Kompany since, with 50 goals and 58 assists in 114 games so far. He is now not only one of the leading players in Europe – and strong candidate for the Balon D’Or – as well as for the French national team.

“I don’t know if it’s just talent with Osorio. He possesses three very important qualities: the speed to go up against any player in the world, a powerful shot, and a spectacular left foot,” the Colo-Colo player emphasised.

“He has three attributes he needs to fully exploit, and with that, he can break into the elite ranks.

“I don’t want to make comparisons, but Olise drives forward quickly, beats his man, and is already among the best in the world. Why can’t Osorio, with the same attributes and the same speed, do the same?”
