Crystal Palace’s Darío Osorio has returned to the international stage with an encouraging performance for Chile, even if the result didn’t go his way.
The winger was one of Chile’s better performers in their 4-2 defeat to the United States in St. Louis.
Osorio also came close to getting himself on the scoresheet. He hit the post during the first half, when Chile had several opportunities to take greater control of the game.
Osorio feels Chile deserved more
Osorio was highlighted as one of the team’s standout performers and carried his comments after the match. But of course the Palace player wasn’t particularly happy with the final score.
“It leaves a sad feeling. We deserved a little more,” Osorio told CNN Chile. “The result doesn’t really reflect what we saw in the match.”
Chile had previously faced Canada, and Osorio felt there had been a clear improvement from that performance.
“We saw an improvement, but we have to keep working,” he explained. “We’re a little more satisfied, but we’re not happy.”
The winger felt Chile could have made much more of their first-half opportunities.
“In the first half we needed to be more clinical with our finishing,” he said. “We hit the post twice and had chances that the goalkeeper saved. We could have put ourselves in a stronger position there.”
Osorio himself was responsible for one of those efforts against the woodwork.

Youngster keeps manager talk about the group
Osorio was also asked about Nicolás Córdova and the work the manager has been doing with Chile. The Crystal Palace player didn’t really make it about his own relationship with the coach.
Instead, he quickly brought the answer back to the whole squad and what they’re trying to build together.
“We’re good and we have the coach’s confidence,” Osorio said. “He tells us we’re building towards the qualifiers. We are all united behind that objective.”
It’s a fairly careful answer from the 22-year-old. Osorio isn’t being drawn into saying much about individual conversations with Córdova. His focus is on the manager having the backing of the group and everyone working towards the same target.
Well, surely a goal would have made his evening a lot better. The post denied him that, but Osorio at least returns from this Chile appearance having provided another glimpse of what Palace signed him for.
