Krépin Diatta is on his way to Watford, after missing out on a move to Crystal Palace and Everton in the summer.

He spent five years at AS Monaco before leaving them as a free agent at the end of last season.

In the summer window, Crystal Palace and Everton were among the clubs that looked at him. The 27-year-old couldn’t get a move to the Premier League and will join Watford as a free agent.

Watford reach agreement

In July, Sport Witness relayed news of Crystal Palace being a step away from signing him. The Eagles didn’t sign him, and a month later, Everton reportedly explored the possibility of securing the Senegal international’s services.

Krépin Diatta didn’t secure a move in the summer window and is still without a club. That will soon change as he’s on the verge of completing a move to Vicarage Road.

That’s according to RTS Sénégal journalist Abdoul Aziz Bane, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report about the Watford transfer. Match 360 first reported it, and the journalist is backing it up.

Bane now states the Championship side have an ‘agreement in place’ to sign the versatile player. Although the window has closed, the Hornets can still sign him outside the window because of his status as a free agent.

Alessio Dionisi’s side are offering him a contract until the end of the season. The reporter makes no mention of the salary or if there’s an option to extend it for another year.

Diatta’s spell at Monaco

The Ligue 1 side took the player from Club Brugge in 2021. Krépin Diatta mainly operated as a right winger and also as a wing-back and a right-back.

Diatta played 143 matches, managing eight goals and nine assists. Last season, he played 1,235 minutes from 22 matches, mainly as a right wing-back.

It’ll be interesting to see what role he will have at Watford. Diatta’s versatility can provide Alessio Dionisi multiple solutions as and when the player regains rhythm and fitness.
