Arsenal target Vinicius Junior has found himself at the centre of one of the more spectacular conspiracy theories we’ve seen involving a footballer. And that is setting the bar quite high.
The Real Madrid star came really close to joining Arsenal during the summer. But months later, parts of the internet now have picked up another explanation for what has happened to Vinicius.
The thing is, apparently, he isn’t Vinicius.
It all started with an alien abduction
To understand this properly, we need to go back to the World Cup. Brazilian psychic and influencer Vó Bahiana predicted an alien invasion during Brazil’s match against Scotland.
More specifically, she claimed a giant UFO would arrive and abduct Neymar and Vinicius.
“I have to tell you that I dreamed again about aliens invading the football pitch in Miami,” she said.
“And I clearly saw how they took the players away in the first ship that arrived. I was inside that ship.”
“When the ship went up, the mothership arrived and abducted thousands of people from the football pitch. I saw so many screams, so much crying, so many tears and suffering.”
The aliens, disappointingly, did not arrive. At least not publicly. But fast forward a few months, though, and Vó Bahiana’s prediction has suddenly found itself with a sequel.
A conspiracy theory has started circulating on Brazilian and European forums. The basic claim is that Vinicius disappeared after the World Cup and has since been replaced by a double.
Some versions have even managed to connect his supposed disappearance with Vó Bahiana’s alien prediction. Reptilians, CIA and the Rothschild family have all been brought into the story too – it was probably inevitable.
So what exactly has convinced people that Vinicius is no longer Vinicius? For starters, the fact is Vinicius underwent facial harmonisation after the World Cup, reportedly wanting to move away from his more youthful appearance.
The difference was very noticeable. And that has provided more material for those convinced the man currently playing football as Vinicius Junior may be someone else entirely.
Some have even started mirroring images of his legs to argue that one of his tattoos has disappeared. The effort going into this are something to watch.
Combined with the earlier alien prediction, we now have Vinicius, a body double, the CIA and the global elites all sharing the same football story.
Real Madrid and the player’s entourage, Marca says, are completely ignoring the whole thing. Which… seems sensible.

There’s also the small matter of his football
Unfortunately for Vinicius, his face isn’t the only thing people think has changed. Since the World Cup and his cosmetic procedure, he hasn’t exactly looked like the same player on the pitch either.
His performances for Real Madrid and Brazil have been well below the level people had come to expect. But Brazilian social media has still spotted the comic potential.
One joke doing the rounds can essentially be translated as: “imagine playing so badly that people start a conspiracy theory claiming you’ve been replaced”. Quite brutal.
So maybe Arsenal got lucky after all. Missing out on Vinicius looked like missing out on one of world football’s biggest stars when the transfer stories were flying around. Now there are apparently people who (jokingly) don’t even believe the player Arsenal wanted still exists.
Imagine if Arteta decided to pay that huge fee only to discover the real one had been abducted by reptilians and replaced as part of a CIA-linked conspiracy. That would have been hard to explain to the board.
