Newcastle United‘s Antonio Cordero, sometimes known as Antoñito, says he snubbed several clubs to join Cádiz CF on loan in the summer window.
The winger graduated from Málaga’s academy and impressed for their first team during the 2024/25 season. They wanted to extend his contract, but he left the Spanish club as a free agent to join the Magpies in June 2025.
Last August, Newcastle United sent him on a season-long loan to KVC Westerlo. The move was disastrous as he failed to score or assist in 102 minutes from eight matches.
Therefore, the Premier League side cut short his stay in January and immediately loaned him to Cádiz. He scored three goals from 21 matches in the second half of last season.
This convinced the Segunda División side to extend his stay in the summer. The decision has paid off as he managed three goals and an assist from eight matches.
Happy to leave Newcastle United
In June, we relayed news the Tyneside club covered a large part of his salary last season and would have done the same this season.
A month later, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain explaining that the 19-year-old rejected lucrative offers to join Cádiz CF.
Antonio Cordero has backed that up during an interview with Cadena Ser‘s El Larguero. He explained the Spanish club’s project convinced him to return on a fresh loan in July.
He said: “I had several options. I left here with a good feeling, and I had a lot of faith in the project.”
Newcastle United man enjoying in Spain
Last weekend, Antonio Cordero scored a brace in Cádiz CF’s 4-0 win over CD Leganés. He is thrilled with the start to the season with the second division Spanish club.
“I’m very happy with the two goals, but also with the whole team. We played well. I’m learning and I’m available for the team. When I get the chance to start, I’ll be delighted; when I don’t, I’ll be happy to come on too,” Cordero explained.
The Magpies owned player said the Cádiz supporters motivate him while playing at their home stadium, JP Financial Estadio.
He added: “It motivates me like crazy. When I’m playing, I get goosebumps when I feel their support.”
After this season, the Spain U19 international has to return to Newcastle United, where he has a contract until 2030.
